I Live in an RV! | Welcome to My New Home

Living in an RV in the forest near the ocean, sustainability and waste production issues are even more on my mind than they were living back in Idaho. My Top 5 Excuses for Not Being Vegan (and the no b.s. truth behind them)

A vegan diet can be super expensive, just like any other diet. If you’re out buying steak and lobster every night, your non-vegan diet doesn’t work for broke folks either. But I can have a fairly healthy vegan diet for less than the cost of the Hamburger Helper and Ramen Noodles diet I grew up on with a single addict mother- so that whole it’s-too-expensive myth is garbage.

How to Manage Cystic Fibrosis on a Vegan Diet

People with cystic fibrosis have a harder time digesting fats and absorbing nutrients, especially fat soluble vitamins A, D, E, and K.

How to Slowly Transition to a Vegan Lifestyle (For good!)

Many people turn vegan over night or over the course of a few days… and there are some really passionate and fired up vegans who will tell you that the minute you see the cruelty, you STOP it immediately, or you’re scum.

Personally? I think that fire and passion for the animals is incredible and I admire it!! But I also think that the fired up approach isn’t going to work for everyone. I think budget constraints, health struggles, and just the mindset we approach life with can really impact our ability to not only “go” vegan, but to STAY vegan. It really is an entire lifestyle shift, and for that to be sustainable some people need to take it in small bites, that’s OKAY!

What to Do When You Witness Animal Cruelty

I’ve lived in a roommate situation for over a year now, watching this guy not care about his animals and assuming it was because he knew I’d do it. Ultimately though, I learned that it’s just not a big deal to him if the animals go a while without food and water. In fact, he’s really proud because his massive dobermanns can go 2 full days without food and will still be complacent and obedient, and not aggressive toward him. Yeah, he thinks that’s a cool status thing. We’re talking about a real jerk here.

Something I’ve been struggling with though, is how can I make sure the animals are cared for when I’m gone. Here’s what I’ve learned to do after witnessing animal cruelty.

Bringing Balance and the Elements into Your Bedroom

We are meant to live in nature. We are animals, and nature shouldn’t just be something we visit. It should be part of our every day lives.

This doesn’t mean we need to live in the mountains all alone or all go join a commune- though I’m guessing we can both agree those are actually pretty fascinating ideas, and not entirely off the table some days. Instead, we can bring the balance, beauty, and divinity of nature into our daily lives through thoughtful decorating and even gardening.
